Not happy with your scars and stretch marks? Let ProFractional, (fractional skin resurfacing) reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

ProFractional-XC™

“Long Lasting Dramatic Results with Minimal Downtime”

What is ProFractional-XC and what does it treat?

ProFractional-XC is Sciton’s latest fractional modality that is taking fractionated resurfacing to the next level.  Profractional, or fractional skin resurfacing, is “The Laser of Youth” to help remove the damage your skin has accumulated over time.

ProFractional-XC  is a relatively new medical laser with proprietary technology that allows for precise fractional delivery of energy.    This technology results in a more comfortable and quicker procedures plus it requires fewer treatments and shorter healing times.

Profractional goes deeper into the skin to treat sun damaged, scarred and aging skin.

Collagen and elastin are stimulated which reduces:

  • fine lines and shallow wrinkles
  • Melasma, sun/age spots
  • Acne scars and large pores
  • Surgical scars and stretch marks

Results are a smoother, brighter skin tone and texture – an overall more youthful and healthier complexion.

How does it work?

The handpiece will be guided precisely over the area to be treated, energy will be delivered onto the skin with the ER:YAG 2940 nm wavelength in an array of precisely controlled microbeams. These beams generate thousands of ablative microscopic channels in the skin which deliver therapeutic heat to the deeper layers in the skin resulting in tissue coagulation below the skin’s surface.

Because only a fraction of your skin is directly treated with the laser, surrounding untreated tissue promotes rapid healing. This natural healing process promotes collagen and elastin production, improving firmness, tone and texture of the skin.

What to expect during treatment?

Make-up and contact lens will be removed. Photos will be taken and numbing cream applied which will take one to two hours to take effect. Depending on the level of the treatment a subcutaneous local anesthetic will be given (similar to a nerve block given by a dentist for freezing) just before the treatment.

Treatment will generally take a few minutes to an hour depending on the size of the area treated. Safety glasses will be worn to protect the eyes.

As the handpiece is moved around the treated area you will hear a rapid succession of pulsing sounds and will feel a sense of heat and a slight snapping on the skin.

How much downtime?

Once the treatment is finished an occlusive barrier of Aquaphor will be applied to the treated area. Keeping the area covered with Aquaphor for the next few days will help aid in the healing process. It is best not to use other products until the skin has healed.

When the procedure is completed you will notice some pinpoint bleeding which will last until you wash off and reapply the Aquaphor at bedtime. Very important to keep your skin clean. Use a gentle cleanser ie. Cetaphil.

A few tiny blood spots – looking like a grid pattern may stay for 1-2 days.

Redness and swelling for a couple of days, gradually decreasing over 3-5 days. Ice packs and dilute vinegar rinses will be soothing and helpful. A topical antibiotic may be applied. Use hydrocortisone cream if the skin becomes itchy. Make-up can be applied after the 2nd day.

Keep out of the sun for 5-7 days and avoid direct sun exposure for 8 weeks post-treatment. After 1-2 weeks or once your skin has healed use sunscreen with at least 35-70 SPF when going outside at all times.

Stop Retin A (Vit A), Vit C serum, AHA products, lightening creams prior to the treatment.

You will be given complete Post Care Instructions to take home. Read carefully and follow as directed.

Our esthetician will recommend skin care products and sunscreen you can use at home to enhance and maintain your results.

What areas can be treated?

Face, neck, chest, hands and arms and any scar on the body including stretch marks.

How many treatments are required?

To see the maximum benefit, 2-3 treatments are required spaced 3-8 weeks apart.

You will notice positive changes in skin tone and texture even within a few days to a week post-treatment. Improvements will continue for up to 6-12 months after.

Maintenance is usually one treatment a year, depending on your skincare regime and sun exposure. Once a scar has been successfully treated maintenance is not required.

What is the required post care?

It is important to follow the clinician’s post care advice following a Profractional treatment to achieve results you desire.

You will be sensitive to UV light and must avoid direct sun exposure until completely healed from a treatment. Once the exposed skin has healed you will need a good quality full spectrum sunscreen.

Discuss with our esthetician skin care products and sunscreen that will best suit your needs.

It may be recommended that you combine Profractional with a MicroLaser Peel or a Tunable Resurfacing Laser treatment to further enhance your results and get the desired level of improvement.
